Come and join us on one of the major Father/Daughter events of the year! We will stay at the Cascade Village condominiums, near the Durango (formerly Purgatory) Mountain Ski Resort. Each unit has a fully-equipped kitchen, great room, bedrooms, and bathrooms. This trip is for non-skiers as well as skiers and snowboarders. Activities may include skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, snowmobiling, and sleigh rides. Come and enjoy a fun and memorable weekend with your daughter.

You must register on-line. Once you complete your on-line registration you will be emailed forms that must be signed, notarized and turned in to Mrs. Nancy Lockman at Xavier. If space runs short as we expect it to, preference will be given to those who register early. Due to pre-payment commitments, there are no refunds after December 18th 2008. Registrations received after December 18th 2008 will be on a space available basis at additional cost. Join the fun! Spend some time with your daughter, her friends, and their dads!

The Father/Daughter Ski Trip is for fathers (or male guardian) and daughters. Mothers, brothers, and boyfriends are not permitted on this trip. One father may take and be responsible for up to two Xavier students. These may be sisters or a daughter and a friend who is in need of a responsible parent to participate.

Registration fee includes travel by bus, lodging, Friday evening welcome buffet, breakfast each of the three days while in Durango and even your bus driver's tip. Lift Tickets now include an on-mountain lunch. There are package options for lessons and equipment rentals as well. Durango Mountain is a great place for beginners to learn to ski or the more experienced to test their skill. The resort has excellent instructors and the mountain has terrain suitable for all levels. If you choose to rent equipment, your pre-paid rental will be waiting for you at the resort when we arrive on Friday night.

We have been able to enhance the trip this year without increasing the cost which is great for everyone. One of the ways we are accomplishing this is by managing the headcount to better utilize the buses. Because the buses come in increments of 50 seats, we need to make sure we fill each bus. In the past accepted registrations until we ran out of beds. This year we are planning on 3 buses as a minimum. Once we fill the 3 buses we will take a wait list. Once we get enough people on the wait list to commit to another bus we will move those folks from the wait list to committed.

We have to make several deposits to hold the rooms, catering, and buses. When you register you are committing to the trip. If you cancel after registration closes but before Dec 18th, you forfeit $100 per person. If you cancel after Dec 18th you will forfeit the total base fee of the trip for each cancelled registration. We want to be fair to everyone, and by holding everyone to this cancellation policy we are able to hold the cost of the trip the same as last year.

Trip Details
Travel to Durango and back will be on luxury motor coaches. We will depart Xavier on Friday, January 15th at 6:00AM. You should arrive by 5:30AM to find your bus assignment, stow your gear on your assigned bus and be ready to leave on time. We strongly recommend that you have someone drop you off and not leave your car at Xavier, however the lots will be locked up and you may leave your car there if need be. Once on the road, movies and music are available. Girls are encouraged to bring their favorite DVDs that are acceptable to all audiences. We will stop in Kayenta, AZ for a quick lunch and plan to arrive at Cascade Village by 5:00PM. When we arrive, everyone will receive their room assignments and keys. Information packets will be distributed on the buses so you can go directly to your room. A welcome reception and dinner buffet will begin shortly after we arrive and is included in your trip registration fee. After dinner on Friday night there are no activities planned so everyone can get a good nights rest.

During the registration process, you may specify a room mate preference for your daughter. We will make every attempt to put students requesting to room together in the same condominium. Our young ladies will share a condominium that sleeps 4 - 8 girls. This puts two girls in some beds when large enough and utilizes sleeper sofas. Girls will be assigned condominiums with other girls in the same graduating class to the greatest extent possible. Each dad will have his own bed, and no dad will be assigned a sofa bed. Dads also may express a preference for roommate. As with the ladies, we will do our best to accommodate roommate preferences. When no preference is expressed, we will do our best to assign condominiums having the other dads who have girls rooming together.

Lifts open at 9:00 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Our buses will be available to take us from Cascade Village to the lifts and bring us home at the end of the day, running about every 20 minutes. Once at the mountain, you will find lessons, food and souvenirs. A favorite feature of our trip is our on-mountain lunch arrangements, which include a private slope-side clubhouse room suitable for relaxing and meeting friends while enjoying a wonderful lunch, catered by the Dads' club. The clubhouse will be open all day Saturday and Sunday and have water and soft drinks, as well as a no-host bar for dads. Lunch and access to the clubhouse is included in the price of daily lift tickets. Please note that you must book your lessons and rental equipment when you register to receive the group rates and we will not be able to accept any changes after registration closes. If you do not decide to purchase lift tickets with your package, it will be your responsibility to purchase them while on mountain.

On Saturday evening, this year, we have added a slope-side dinner for the entire group, included in the trip base cost. We have also arranged to have post ski-day tubing fun after the lifts close. Hot chocoloate and light snacks will be served on the nearby tubing hill. On Sunday evening we will have the traditional Senior Dinner at the Sow's Ear, which is of course included with your registration fee if your daughter is a senior. We will also have a bus running to the Chop House and the on-mountain "Purgy's" restaurant every 20 minutes over the course of the evening. Other than those two options, Sunday evening you are free to enjoy the evening as you see fit. If you choose to dine at the Chop House we strongly recommend that you make reservations in advance.

We depart from Durango at approximately 8:00am on Monday January 18th. We expect to arrive at Xavier approximately 6:00pm. It is strongly recommended that you have a cell phone charged up so that you may update the party picking you up, if you have not left your car at Xavier. All good things must come to an end, so every student is expected to be in school as usual on Tuesday, January 20th with their homework complete.

Trip Package Options
  • The cost for the trip is $410 per person, which includes transportation, lodging, breakfast and beverages on the bus to Durango, Friday night welcome reception, Friday night buffet dinner, Saturday night tubing, snacks and slope-side dinner, breakfasts for all 3 days, slopeside lunch both Saturday and Sunday, bus driver tip and a commemorative gift.
  • Lift tickets are $55 per person per day. You have the option of skiing two days, one day or not at all. Included in your lift ticket purchase is the on-mountain lunch and clubhouse access for the day your lift ticket is valid. Historically, lunch on the mountain has been of varying quality and/or problematic, so we are very pleased to include lunch this year. Patrick Hickey is heading up the catering effort for the clubhouse, which should have water and soda as well as a no-host bar for the dads. There is a big-screen in the clubhouse as well.
  • Ski and snowboard rentals are available. Equipment pickup will be Friday evening after dinner. There will be a new process for picking up your equipment this year to make the process as smooth as possible. There are three ski packages: basic, for $25.00; Sport for $30.00; and Performance for $35.00. snowboard packages are all $35.00. All packages include breakage insurance. If you are a first-time skier, the Basic package will be adequate. As an intermediate skier, the Sport package is worth the difference for better boots than the Basic package, and the Performance package is the best choice for advanced/expert skiers.
  • Half-day and full-day group lessons are available on Saturday for a cost of $45.00 for half-day and $70.00 for full-day. Private lessons are available by contacting the Durango Mountain Resort Ski School directly at (970) 385-2169.

You don't have to ski to enjoy the trip. Durango has lots of wonderful other activities like fly fishing, snowmobiling and hiking, as well as many large screen TVs in local establishments that will most likely be showing football. Please don't let being a non-skier stop you from joining us on this great trip! Details and reservations for these activities is your responsibility and are often sold out by time we get there, so it is strong recommended that you make reservations in advance. Additional details and reservation contact information for other activities will be provided via email after registration hs closed.
